The One Thing I Never Travel Without

Whether it is a family vacation, surf trip to Bali, weekend away for work, or a backpacking trip around Europe, there is one thing that comes with me without hesitation.  This one little thing accompanies me no matter where I go because, well that’s its purpose. So what is this one little thing? It’s my St. Christopher necklace.

I first discovered Get Back Supply Co. necklaces on a trip to California. The surfboard shaped display was set right near the register at a surf shop near San Francisco. Being the impulsive shopper that I am, I grabbed a blue one off the display and added it to my pile on the counter while I was checking out. That was almost 2 years ago, and since then there have been very few days that you could find me without my St. Christopher around my neck (I even ended up buying the sterling silver version of the necklace to keep up with my constant wear).

So why a St. Christopher? St. Christopher is the protector of travel and back in the 60’s surfers and travelers alike would wear these medallions to protect them between each destination. If you know anything about me you know that I like to consider myself a member of both of these tribes.

Get Back Supply Co. has continued the tradition of these rad surf medallions. The family owned company has helped to keep the original spirit of the medallions alive by promoting community, living in the present and promoting the past. Get Back says that with every one of their necklaces you are sharing your personal experiences (don’t worry if you aren’t into necklaces they have rings, bracelets, and key chains too).

So what are some of my experiences that my Get Back necklace was along for the ride for?  Most recently, I spent spring break down in Marathon Key. We rented a boat while there and one night on our ride out to watch the sunset we got the boat a little, okay maybe a lot, stuck. We all hopped out of the boat and helped push and with the help of a friendly jet skier we were on our way again in no time. Just a few minutes after we got unstuck we spotted some playful dolphins, so clearly our timing ended up being perfect.

I'm already planning my next adventure for the end of the summer and trust me I have not even began to think about how I will pack for the 9 week trip. I do know without a doubt though, that when I board the plane in September my St. Christopher necklace will be hanging around my neck.
