My Favorite Form of Self Care

Funny story, this post has been sitting in my drafts for a good few months pretty much completed, just needing the final touches. For some reason though I just kept ignoring it. The last week or so I've been seeing a good handful of post online about self care and and self love and how both really need to be thought of as less spoiling yourself or treating yourself or promoting indulging in yourself in excess and instead should be more of doing what is best for you even if it is less glamorous. One Pinterest post in particular really made me stop and think "YES, THIS, THIS, THIS! PREACH!"

So good, right? Loving yourself can be hard. Taking care of yourself can be hard. Focusing some of your precious time on these things can be hard. But guess what? Hard does not mean impossible. Hard may been uncomfortable or scary, or weird or different, but it does not mean impossible. Do what is best for you. Make and commit to the hard things that are going to benefit you. Your future self will look back and thank you for not settling.

Kate mentions in the post above how "scheduling a doctors appointment" can constitute as self love and I totally agree! While I have admittedly been putting off calling and making an appointment for my stubborn wrist, I do make sure to get my butt into the chiropractor on a weekly basis.

With all that being said, I figured now would be the time to get this little post titled "My favorite form of self care" out of my drafts and into the world, I hope you enjoy!

When you bring up “Self Care” a lot of people think of bubble baths and face masks. Others may think of a little time each day carved out to read a good book instead of mindlessly scrolling social media or preparing a yummy fresh meal. For me, there is one thing in the self care department that I make sure is on my calendar once every week, a trip to the chiropractor. I’ve been seeing my chiropractor since I was about 16. I go in weekly for an adjustment. Some weeks there is nothing specific that I feel needs a tune up, other weeks I have her focus on my pesky wrist, or a pinch in my shoulder or my hip that feels a little off. When I was in high school, dance and being on crutches so frequently tended to be the main cause of my wonky body or my random aches and pains. Now, my causes are a little bit different. These days, my body finds it needs a tune up after too long typing away on my computer, from whatever work outs I am currently trying out, from having too much fun surfing or from the array of flights I find myself taking. The flights really do me in, between January and May of this year I found myself on 26 planes. Yes you read that right, 26. Between work and play I find myself in the air a lot and let me be the first to tell you, it can get taxing on your neck, back, legs, really your body as a whole. Each week though, I can trust the my chiropractor will help crack and adjust my body back into place.

In addition to my aches and pains my chiropractor has helped to do work on my sinuses when I was sick, helped adjust my neck to help in the aftermath of an ear infection, and helped advise me on the best supplements to take to help my body run smoothly.

I honestly swear by the chiropractor. Just ask any of my friends, whenever they bring up something in their body that bugs them I am the first to tell them they should go visit a chiropractor. Really, if you haven't been, I 10/10 recommend. It is my absolute favorite form of self care and the most beneficial for me personally.
