Knowing vs Doing

There are a lot of things that I have come to know in regards to the way my body and mind work, and what makes them function at their best. The funny thing about my knowledge of things though, is I am not always great with follow through. I’m not always the best at doing. I will read all the personal development books, listen to the tips and tricks on podcast, and absorb as much as I can from the inspiring fitness, spiritual, and life coaches I follow online. Putting things into action though, I sometimes find myself falling short. I don't blame myself for this though. I have a pretty active mind, so sometimes I take in all sorts of ideas and advice and then get a little overwhelmed about how to make it all happen.

Here are some things I know:

*When I am consistently active, be it in the sense of exercise or just being productive, my anxiety is almost non existent.

*Turmeric is good at helping fight inflammation. Vitamin D, C and Zinc, are helpful to your immune system.

*Keeping your physical space around you clean helps you also have a clear head.

*Exercising on a regular basis makes me feel strong, confident, and overall happier.

*The beach is always a place that makes me feel calm. It’s a place that always helps me clear my head and makes me feel at home.

Now, here are some things I’m not always great at doing:

*Getting up and getting moving. If I wake up in the morning feeling off, I’m not so great at forcing myself to get my butt out of bed and get moving.

*Taking my vitamins and supplements. Turmeric would probably be super beneficial in helping my pesky left wrist that isn’t a fan of bearing much weight these days. Vitamin D, C and Zinc would majorly help keep me healthy. After a few rounds of antibiotics a few months back and lots of air travel, my immune system can really use all the help it can get. The vitamins are all sitting on my vanity.. but weirdly enough they don’t help much when you don't take them, who knew?

*I suck at keeping my physical space clean. My car, my bedroom. Rachel Hollis and my Mom constantly remind me that cleaning up and decluttering my space would make a huge impact on my headspace, yet the task still feels large and overwhelming.

*Exercising. Somedays I put it off until the last possible minute, and sometimes I neglect it all together. Luckily I can say this is a habit that I have become much better at being consistent with, but there is definitely still some room for improvement.

*Getting my butt to the beach when I need to clear my head. I am so lucky to be just minutes from the beach, yet I am so good at forgetting that even just driving there and sitting in my car looking at the water can help me feel better. In reality, I’m good at getting in all of my beach therapy in the warmer months, it’s the other 9 months a year I stop doing it.

See, I know exactly what I should be doing. I just don’t always do it. Doing things can be hard. But, I’m not putting all of this in words to belittle myself. Instead, I’m putting all of this into words as a way of taking a step back from myself, reflecting and acknowledging where I fall a little short so that I can try to make a plan to continue growing and feeling like the best me. I encourage you to jot down a quick list of the things you know are beneficial for you that you maybe aren’t the best at implementing. Be honest with yourself. There’s no shame. And then after making that list pick one thing on that list to focus on. For one day or week or month really focus on doing that thing you know will help you! Personally, I’m starting with my vitamins. I’ve set an alarm in my phone to help get me in a habit of remembering to take them!

Proof I am trying to take my vitamins.

Proof I am trying to take my vitamins.

Everyone has things they can work on, that’s part of life. And hey, if you decide that you want to share your list, like I did mine, for a little bit of accountability feel free to send it my way.
