Bucket List Adventures

Poem by Atticus found in “Love Her Wild.” adventure poem. bucket list adventures.

We’ve all got that list of things we hope to accomplish, our dream destinations, adventures we wish to have. I personally, have been giving this list a whole lot of thought lately because being cooped up at home is making me crave hoping on a plane and running off to do something fun and new even more than I already was. This is my bucket list of adventures I want to have- though the list is ever changing and evolving. Some of these are location specific while some are adventures I can have anywhere. My mind is mentally planning a million trips in my head about 70% of the time lately and most of them include these activities.

Dive/ snorkel Great Barrier Reef

I think it’s safe to say that the Great Barrier Reef is on any water lovers bucket list. I got Scuba certified a couple years ago for my trip to Madagascar and since then I’ve dove in Madagascar and Bali. Diving the Great Barrier Reef feels like a must!

Summit Mt Kilimanjaro

Ever since my first trip to Africa, Mt. Kilimanjaro has been on my radar. It’s something that pops into my head whenever I start to day dream where I want to go next and it’s been freshly on my mind after falling down a YouTube rabbit hole recently and binging videos on people’s experience climbing the mountain. Not familiar with Mt. Kilimanjaro? It’s considered the roof of Africa, it’s the largest mountain in Africa and the worlds largest free standing mountain at 19,341 ft tall.

Learn to sail/ go on some sort of sailing adventure

Between reading the book Swell by Liz Clark and watching John John Florence’s mini YouTube series Vela, I’ve developed this strong desire to learn how to sail. I’d love to embark on some sort of tropical sailing, surf adventure!

Surf in the arctic

As someone who surfs cold water waves, I feel like this would be a fun way to take that to another level. Plus, how rad would it be to surf under the Northern Lights?

Step foot on every continent

Four down, three to go! I’ve been able to check North America, Asia, Africa and Europe off the list which leaves Australia, South America and Antarctica (and yes, there are ways to visit Antarctica- I double checked!)

Get barreled

I think that getting barreled is at the top of any surfers list of things to accomplish, myself included!

Run a marathon

I’m actually starting to enjoy running, which would be very surprising if you were to have asked me two or three years ago! Recently, setting monthly milage goals has helped keep me moving (literally and mentally) through the weirdness that is our current state of events. Running a marathon, while a big goal for someone who is just breaking the 2 mile without stopping stage, seems like a good thing to work for right now when it feels hard to want to work towards much else. It feels hard and unproductive for me personally to look too fat into the future because who knows what even tomorrow will look like. I can control how much I run, so if down the line I work my way up to 26.2 miles and run it on my own without a bib, finish line or medal then that’s fine! It’s still a goal to accomplish (though I’d prefer to participate in a race, get to cross an actual finish line and get a medal!)

Learn to free dive

Free diving is so fascinating to me. It seems like it is freeing, exhilarating and and incredible way to explore beneath the waters surface, a place that intrigues me like no other!
