I am trying very hard to cut down on my use of single use plastic. I know, I talk about it kind of a lot. You’ve never heard me mention it? You must be new around here in which case, welcome! My name is Madisyn; it’s nice to meet you! I hope you enjoy my blog!
Alright, back to plastic.
It’s not great. I still use my fair share, don’t get me wrong, but I am trying my hardest to be more conscious and make changes. I recently found a really rad website, thank you Instagram, that is all about a waste free life. Package Free sells all sorts of things to help reduce your amount of waste from canvas totes and stainless steel straws to bamboo utensils and tooth brushes. While some of their products are required to have packaging, Package Free makes sure that all packaging is able to be fully recycled. All of Package Free orders ship using materials that are plastic free, compostable, recyclable and supportive of the values that Package Free promotes (Want to know the shipping details? Check them out here).
I’ve made a few purchases from Package Free already and LOVE everything! So far I’ve gotten my hands on 3 bags and a utensil set.
I love this bag. It has become my summer, black hole, carry-all bag. The bag is made from organic cotton and is 100% biodegradable and compostable at the end of its lifetime! The bag is printed with #GIVEASHIT on one side and “Think outside the box” on the other, perfect for making a bold statement or a more subtle statement depending on your mood.
DON’T MESS WITH MAMA
Mama Earth that is. Again, love this tote. This bag is made from a thinner material than the #GIVEASHIT bag, making it perfect to stash with you when shopping. Not to say this bag can’t be used as your everyday bag too, I used it as my purse while I waited for the #GIVEASHIT bag to be restocked. This tote is made from recycled cotton and, just like the previous bag, is biodegradable and can be composted.
THE INSTA FAMOUS BAG
Okay, not the real name of the bag but come on they are all over Instagram. I think every blogger and Instagram model I follow has posted a photo with a bag of this style being used as a beach bag and spilling its contents into the sand. I get why everyone loves it because I love mine too, I keep it with me all the time. This little string bag is perfect for groceries or errands because it holds up to 40 pounds, hard to believe right?
I already have a pack of stainless steel straws that I keep with me, but don’t worry Package Free has you covered for those too and theirs aren’t packaged in plastic like the ones I got at Bed, Bath and Beyond were, but I digress. I decided to order a bamboo utensil set from Package Free to keep in my bag so that I don’t need to use plastic, to-go utensils. The set comes with a fork, spoon, knife and chop sticks all made from bamboo. In addition the to the utensils themselves you get a handy little pouch to keep them in. I’ve added my straw to the bundle and now I have the perfect little kit in my bag!
Based off my experience with my Package Free goodies I cannot recommend them enough! The products are great, they are affordable, and they ship in a reasonable amount of time so really what isn't to love?! I'm thinking my next plastic-free upgrade may have to be a bamboo toothbrush!
